UTILITY SET UP AND CANCELLATIONS PROCEDURE AND AVERAGE TIMETABLE
It is obligatory that the expats obtain ‘The power of attorney’ from the notary with the details of the person to whom s/he will give authority to sign the necessary documents to set up/cancel the utilities on her/his behalf. The authorised person will need the documents below to proceed with setting up and cancellation; - ‘Power of Attorney’ Given by the Tenant - Photocopy of the Relevant Pages of the Passport - Photocopy of ‘Residence Visa’ - Photocopy of the ‘Contract’ - Installation Number or a Previous Bill ELECTRICITY COMPANY (TEK, Bogazici, Ayedas)
WATER COMPANY (İski) As
in above, when the authorised person goes to the water company with the
same documents to set up, s/he will have to pay ‘Security Deposit’ on
your behalf. This fee will be paid back to you when the cancellation of
this utility is made. GAS COMPANY (İgdaş):
After the set up of the gas bill is done you will call the gas company to make an appointment in your property. Generally, they will give you an appointment for 1 or 2 days later. They give you the date but they are not able to let you know exactly what time they will come. Therefore you will need to wait in the property on that day. A representative from the gas company will come to your property, they will check the installation, they confirm that it is elligible to be activated and give you some documents to keep. These documents need to be kept for future reference. Most homes have been equipped with natural gas for heating. Gas bills are issued every month. Sometimes, the cost of gas is included in your monthly general building charges. If your gas is handled separately from the general apartment, your monthly bills are paid through automatic bank withdrawal or through payment at the banks listed on the bill. Some ovens and bathroom water heating units used LPG gas tubes. These are sold on trucks that rove the neighbourhoods, often playing a catchy jingle to advertise their presence.
